“You got called in too?” Lena blinked at Winston as he stumbled out from a side hall. The gorilla was decked in a lab coat and goggles, and was furiously trying to pat a spot of said coat that Lena swore was smoldering.
“Oh, Lena!” He stopped his, in Lena’s opinion, futile efforts. That black spot would be there forever, best he got a new coat, “Yes, Commander Reyes told me to report to him, though…” Winston nervously glanced at a nearby clock.
“You lost track of...

A/N: I don’t normally have notes at the start, but this is an important plot point that I don’t think I ever made clear: Reinhard hasn’t found out that Felt is the last candidate. Because he was off dealing with the mabeasts, he didn’t see that the insignia reacted to Felt. The only ones that saw it would have been Rom, Subaru and Felt herself, none of which know the significance of the insignia.

Travel is something that I never expected to do much, ev...

Dragons were, by far, the most dangerous things that Shirou had seen in this world. Beyond even the wyverns, the elves, the Imperials - everything. Dragons were just astronomically stronger than all of those combined.
With their scales, any form of mana would get dispersed, not allowing any mage to even graze them.
With their wings, they could lift off the ground easily, preventing any warrior or archer from reaching them.
With their breath, they could scour any and all fort...

For the longest time, John thought that he’d left this life. The trials he’d been through, the suffering he’d endured, he thought that it had all been worth it in the end.
And it was.
For five years, John and Helen were just that. John and Helen. A married couple living the life that anyone could have wanted. There were no worries to be had, just living for the sake of love.
It was a life that John never imagined he would be living. And he savored every single...

The trip through the Monastery was uneventful, after all was said and done. The three students that had accompanied them had eventually split off, leaving Jeralt to lead them around. The man seemed to know exactly where they were heading, as he didn’t even stop once to ask for directions.
Finally, they arrived at their destination. They walked in the room, a grand, circular audience chamber by the looks of it. In the back, two figures stood. One, a man with green hair, and a severe lo...

Lena enjoyed exercising. She enjoyed the burn as she went through a good run. She relished in the knowledge that she was bettering herself. It was why she was one of the few pilots that also enjoyed the initial stages of the RAF as much as the actual piloting.
But this?
This wasn’t exercise. This was torture.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” A voice shouted from the distance, “You think we have time for that? Hurry up! If any of you don’t finis...

I hate social get-togethers. In the past, I hated it entirely because it was a reminder of how ostracized I was. With my eyes, nobody wanted to talk to me, let alone invite me to wherever. I would overhear my classmates talk about how the party last Saturday was great, or how this guy and this girl got together during it.
A symbol of being an eternal outcast, I felt that it was. It was an idea that stuck with me from the very beginning.
As I grew older, and leaned more and more in...

In the span of three weeks, Shirou could say without a doubt, that despite the seemingly primitive era that the elves lived in, they were much more than that. For one, they had a school that taught not just the youngest of the village, but anyone who wanted to learn.
From attending it just a few times, he could say that it was the equivalent to a high school, something that he hadn’t expected. The elves had an understanding of algebra, studied their recorded history, practiced their p...

“I hate you, by the way.”
“Sure you do.”
“If I could wring your neck right now, I could.”
“You’d have to be tall enough to reach it, first off.”
Lena took a breath as she counted mentally to ten. It had been basically a sleepless night, as Emily had kept her up with being partially angry and partially worried. All because Archer had to tell her about the whole truck incident.
“Did you really have to do that?”
“Of course I did.”

It had been three days since the battle at Felt and Rom’s place. To say that the peace was broken was an understatement. Mabeasts had come into the city, something that was completely unacceptable. As such, the council enacted a quasi-martial law in the entire capital.
Nobody was allowed to leave, just as nobody was allowed to enter. The stores of food would last a good week before they had to ration things out, according to Astrea. In the meantime, the knights would be screening thro...

The cool night air was a far cry from the hustle and bustle of the village around him.
Nursed in Shirou’s hand was alcohol, but of a kind he was unfamiliar with. The sweetness of the drink was enough to get even his attention, never having tasted it before. Apparently, it was made from several fermented fruits that were native to the elves’ original home. They had brought some when they crossed the Gate, and had farmed them thousands of years ago.
And wasn’t that a revelatio...

The moment that Emily stepped in their flat, she knew that there was something going on.
“Lena? Who’s this?” Emily threw a questioning glance at the rather tall, red clad man that stood with his arms crossed. He wore a red jacket over a black shirt and black pants. He was taller than the both of them, which was exacerbated by how confident he stood.
She hadn’t seen this man before, nor did she know that Lena knew someone as unique-looking as him - what with stark white hai...

The forest they were in was dense, that much Shirou was certain of before. Just from the area he had ventured in, he could see the thick canopies of various trees, not a single bit of ground unclaimed by the vegetation around them.
So, imagine his surprise when, as they walked further in, the forest became even denser. before, they could still walk on fairly even ground, now they had to climb on the monstrous roots on seemingly normal looking trees.
Not only that, but the leaves b...

The pilot nodded at the gorilla, who was too busy looking at various screens to notice. She took a moment to breathe, before she got into a runner’s position. She focused her vision on the training bot, which was steadily going back and forth.
She ran.
The world turned blue.

Patience, they say, is a virtue. Patience is what makes whatever you’re waiting for even better. Patience is what keeps you from doing something completely irrational. More than once, I’ve had to wait for a shipment to come in, or wait for some customer who’s late to pick up their order. I should have, after years in this world, learned to be patient.
I am not patient.
I hate waiting. I hate being made to wait. I hate making other people wait. Because a...

It had been two weeks since he’d come across to this ‘Special Region’. Two weeks since the JSDF had fought against a hostile, invading force. Two weeks since Shirou himself had to reveal the existence of magecraft to the wider world. Two weeks since the JSDF formally entered the anomaly.
And those two weeks were some of the most tedious of his life.
Far from what the rest of the world was probably thinking, coming to another world was no easy task, especially when you were h...

When Lena went to the Overwatch base early in the morning, prepared to do whatever she needed to do, she certainly didn’t expect there to be a huge crowd waiting outside. Nor did she expect the mayor of London herself to come with an entire entourage of reporters.
She most certainly didn’t expect to be dragged up with everyone else as they waited for their turn. If she did, she’d have put on something other than her work clothes!

Desperation. It was something I was familiar with. I feel despair whenever I spill my coffee in the morning. I feel despair when I hit my toe on the side of a table. I feel despair when I pay in too large denominations because I didn't have any change.
Yes. I felt despair.
But this? This wasn't despair. This was dread. An all-encompassing feeling that threatened to swallow me whole.

Concrete. It was perhaps the most common building material of the modern world. The literal foundation that mundane society stood on. Cities made with concrete would last for hundreds, if not thousands of years, far outstripping their ancestors’ own wooden cities of ages long past.
Yet, there was one problem. Concrete still aged. It would weather, chip and break given enough punishment. Towering buildings could become nothing but rubble as an earthquake shook it. A home might be washe...

When I started this Patreon two months ago, I didn't really expect much to come out of it - I hadn't posted anything in a few years, so I thought it'd be longer to get any traction. Instead, I've gotten a lot more support than I ever did expect.
Basically, I also wanted to say thank you. As much as I do enjoy writing, it's much more exciting(? I don't know the exact words for this, but exciting is the closest ...

Protagonists are the worst. They always get some bullshit powers, get the girl, and get involved in shit that they really shouldn’t be.
I’m confident in saying that I’m not the protagonist, since I always seem to only get that last one.

Hours had gone by, the sun was now peaking in the sky, and they had found absolutely nothing. Shirou had searched the Matou home, complete with a hole where the garden was, and found none of the bugs that had been there previously.
It made him tense. Wherever Zouken was, he’d most certainly not be letting this go. Attacking a workshop like this was more than likely to have grave consequences for not just the people responsible, but everyone they knew.
Magi could hold grudges, an...

Twenty longswords, fourteen shortswords, and twenty eight knives. These were the orders I'd received for the day. A single longsword could take an experienced smith a couple of hours to a day to complete, depending on the quality. Same with the shortswords, while the knives were a bit faster.
If I recall correctly, this was significantly faster than my world's historical sword making capabilities. It probably had to do with magic here making life a lot easier. Fires that didn't constant...

"That'll be fifteen silver in total." Copper, silver, gold. Normally, that's how it'd be in most fantasy settings. Sometimes, the conversions might be different, such as 29 copper to silver, and 17 silver to gold. Completely arbitrary, and in most cases, these conversions are pulled straight from the author's ass. That's why I can appreciate the simplicity of this world's system. Only ten of each currency to the next. Clean, easy to remember, and most certainly logical. Though, the addition o...
