Somehow, Living Life in Another World is Wrong, as I Expected Ch. 10.6

When it comes to dealing with unexpected occurrences, the main problem is dealing with the fallout. Say you get hit by a limo on the way to your first day of school, what happens then? The first, immediate problem is that you’ve been hit by a damn car. Broken bones? Possible. Ludicrous medical bill? Not as bad as you would think, if you lived in Japan.

Social ostracization? Being left out of any and all friend groups? Both are very likely. Still, I suppose I would have ended up in the...

Oftentimes, when Shirou found himself dealing with royalty, it was due to necessity. See, by the nature of a royal lineage being as long lived, it was fairly common for them to have some form of magical energy. It was the reason why the Clock Tower still technically served under the British monarchy, even having sat in a meeting or two with the Lords when discussing particularly dangerous situations that might involve the common populace.

He had, in fact, met the Queen - the British Que...

They were sent back to London soon after it was clear that Talon had completely vacated the area. ‘They’ meaning everyone, except for Captain Amari. Or rather, Lena should be calling her Mrs. Amari now.

The reason was both sad and understandable. Without her memory, the Overwatch legend couldn’t exactly perform her job, so she was, temporarily, removed from the roster. What’s more, the commanders had pulled some strings and basically put her into witness protection, for fear tha...

Fighting is, as unfortunate as it is, something I’ve had to do quite a bit in this world. Minor scuffles when random would-be muggers? I’d beat the shit out of them to make a point. Knights that don’t know how to take a hint that I don’t want to spar? I’d lose on purpose just to make them disappointed and never approach me ever again.

The latter one worked more times than I could count, with knights that couldn’t figure out why Astrea was being friendly with me. People call ...

A Chinese dao. A Swiss zweihander. A Sumerian axe. An Aztec macuahuitl. Weapons that he had seen from Gilgamesh’s Gate of Babylon all those years ago. Unlike the many, many treasures inside of that Noble Phantasm, these ones were not. They were plain weapons, the only distinguishing feature of all of them being their incredible quality.

Aside from that, nothing united all of them.

Unless you counted Shirou actively preparing to Trace and shoot them the moment he heard the words ...

After a couple of hours figuring out just what had happened, several more Overwatch personnel were sent to the Polish hospital they were staying in. More or less, they were to provide relief and support to the staff there - and more importantly, security. With the heightened tensions of a terrorist organization in their borders, the Polish government quickly approved of their deployment, if only to ease the public.

Those few hours also meant that all of the news that the media had manag...

Announcement: Delay (Again)

I feel like this is becoming too common...but yeah, this week's chapter will be delayed, and will be released alongside the other chapter next week. However, the reason for doing so is a bit different than normal. See, I've recently graduated, but have still been unable to find a job. Current job market isn't easy, as most people can tell you.

I'll be real, this is making me stressed as all hell. As in, I am growing white hairs kind of stressed. I know people say not to stress all too m...

There are many types of magic in this world. Fire, water, earth, wind, yin and yang. Four main elemental magics, and two extras. Add on some more Spirit-based magic, and you now have the makings of a basic, easy to digest isekai fantasy system.

Of course, because this was the case, there would always be ‘forbidden’ magics.

In normal isekai stories, these types would fall into the hands of the protagonist, who would go on to not realize the sheer power that they held in their h...

The wind on the highway smelled like dust and iron. Wagons groaned, leather creaked, and somewhere behind him Helena’s wings rasped as she settled again on a cart’s rail. He kept the Imperial writ tucked where his hand could find it without looking. The parchment felt heavier than it should - part authority, part leash. He signed as Chulainn. That was the name the Empire needed to hear, and that was the name on the seal he carried now.

Shirou had no doubt that the Emperor knew it wa...

It’s a miracle that I still remember all of these tropes when I haven’t so much as seen a light novel in years. Maybe they’re just burned in. Maybe they’re muscle memory for the brain. Or maybe I’ve been living in one long enough that even if I wake up with gray hair and a mortgage, I’ll still know how the beats land.

Here’s the thing: teaming up with a previous antagonist is cheap - until it isn’t. It’s a coupon you pull out when the story needs a twist, and it’s a ...

“How’s her condition?” Archer spoke as he entered the hospital room. Lena was sitting down on one of the chairs beside the hospital bed where Captain Amari was laying in. It was her turn to watch over her, as they had taken to doing shifts.

They were in a hospital in Poland, though Lena didn’t know exactly where. After the skirmish they were in, they quickly transported the injured to the closest hospital, and Angela had basically assumed the role of head doctor in order to faci...

The chamberlain didn’t posture or preach; he slid three sealed rolls across a scarred desk and spoke like a man paying a bill, “Go before dawn. Don’t draw eyes.” The halls still pulsed with the Emperor’s order, with Zorzal’s swallowed outrage, and with the heavy silence that follows both. Decrees move like stone; gossip moves like water. The city hadn’t heard yet, and that gap - the space between a command and the streets that must live with it - was exactly where people get tra...

Can't write for long cause it hurts my head right now. Essentially, haven't finished the chapter due to high blood pressure over the week. Nothing about stress, just hereditary. Will try to post two chapters next week, or three after if this continues next week. Thank you for understanding.

The more they ran, the more that Lena could spot Omnic bodies lying motionless on the ground. Some had holes in their torsos, others lacked torsos to begin with. All of them bore the mark of Archer shooting them down, one way or the other.

Despite it all, Lena and Sombra continued to run - more like hobble - their way across the field with their patient. Distant gunshots continued to pepper along the way, thankfully not where they were going. The sooner that they could make it to Angela...

‘The hero arriving late’ is a trope as old as time. Often, this depicts the heroes as still having human flaws, in that the trials that they rushed through were just so great that even the hero struggled with it. Often, this ends up with the hero seeing what they wanted to save being burned to the ground.

That doesn’t make for good stories in the long run, however.

If you always put your hero through tragedy after tragedy without a source of catharsis, it would make even the...

What did it mean to be a hero?

Ever since that night, when Shirou spoke with Kiritsugu, he had thought that an Ally of Justice was equivalent to being a hero. Or rather, that being an Ally of Justice automatically made one a hero. That all one had to do was to uphold the very values that a hero embodies - that is to say, to help those who needed helping.

Childish? Perhaps. Naive? Almost certainly. Yet, for Shirou, that simplicity was its strength. A visceral, core truth that had b...

The first thing that Lena did as she heard the gunshot was force the person next to her to the ground. The second was to whip around her head to find where the shot had impacted. Conventional wisdom would say to find where the shooter was, and finding out where the bullet, or whatever it might have been, ended up was the first step for that.

The third thing to do should have been to get a rough estimation of the angle of attack, even as she was ushering the panicked crowd to cover. ...

A beginning and an end. When we talk about anything, these two are constants in everything. Everything begins, and everything will eventually end. This, of course, applies to life in general. Everyone is born to a mother and father, and everyone will eventually die.

However, that is not what anyone is interested in.

When we talk about a beginning, we only see it as the intro, the opening salvo that leads to something worthwhile. You don’t open a book to the first chapter, then t...

The courier that arrived to deliver a message to Shirou was nervous, anyone with eyes could see that. They had barely said anything since entering the district, as they had been escorted by a few Yaga beside them. No doubt, the courier felt intimidated as they had to cross the rebellion’s stronghold just to meet with him.

Shirou could only spare them a moment of sympathy, needing to read the missive that had been sent by the royal family, if the seal was anything to go by.

Emiya stared at the glass in front of him in thought. He had Reinforced it to handle just about anything below Divinity itself, so there was no chance that O’Deorain could get out by herself. Of course, he was worried that the arm she sported could be used to bypass her confinement.

The one watching could do so without any effort.

Thankfully, after their lull in conversation, its gaze shifted somewhere else. Clearly, it...

The needs of a populace outweigh the wants. This is the basic idea behind society. By the very nature of the world, there are a finite amount of resources to be shared around. In order to facilitate an ‘equal’ society, there must also be a balance between the various needs and wants of each individual person.

If, say, there was a limited amount of water, then it would be obvious that society would need to ration this water out. Seeing as this wasn’t a desert planet, this thankfull...

Unfortunately, I have to delay this week's chapter. I have been trying to finish it, but I've been sick the past week ever since I got caught out in the rain (pro tip, always have an umbrella on you at all times).

At any rate, I'll keep this one short since I can't stand looking at my screen for long. As always, I'll post a double chapter either next week, or whenever I get better. Apologies again.

The Senate chamber was never truly silent. Even in the absence of voices, the weight of history pressed down upon it. History that anyone that stood in it for more than a few seconds would be able to feel. Be it from the cracks that lined the walls, ones that couldn't be repaired due to the ever-presence of the senators, or the groves in the floor that clearly marked where many, many orators paced during their speeches.

Shirou Emiya stood at the center of it all, the weight of countless...

With what happened to the abandoned town being heard from a fair distance away, the Polish government couldn’t exactly keep it all a secret. Within an hour of the short battle, there was a convoy of police, ambulances, and reporters all travelling to the remote area.

Thankfully, Overwatch’s presence was taken more of a response to terrorist threats, rather than them capturing a former member of Blackwatch.

There were some interviews given, sure, but all of them had more pressi...

The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and pine as Byleth led the way down the winding mountain path, the weight of the Lance of Ruin strapped to her back a constant, uncomfortable presence. Behind her, the students moved in uneasy silence, their footsteps muffled by the thick carpet of fallen needles. Sylvain had barely spoken since they’d left Conand Tower, his usual smirk replaced by a hollow stare fixed on the road ahead.

I remember hearing of a quote once. It went along the lines of: ‘The only constants in life are death and taxes.’ Respectfully, I disagree with this notion.

There are many constants in life that exist. The need to breathe, the gravity-that-shouldn’t-be on a flat world, and the ever-presence of money. These are constants that will never change, no matter what world we might find ourselves in.

I should know, seeing as I’ve experienced two already, something that not many oth...

Emperor Molt Sol Augustus watched as the strange group departed the Senate chamber, his fingers steepled beneath his chin. The Celt - Chulainn - was an enigma. A warrior, yes, but not one driven by mere coin or glory, or any of the many other base motivations that he had seen in other such men. There was something else in those golden eyes, something that unsettled him in a way he could not easily dismiss. They were the eyes of a man who had stared into the abyss and found it staring back. For a brief moment, all that Lena could see was the rubble falling towards her.

Then, a blur of red - Archer’s coat - flashed in front of her. His arm shot out, and a massive, transparent shield materialized just in time to intercept the collapsing ceiling. The impact sent dust and debris flying, but both the shield and Archer's arm held firm.

"Run!" Archer barked, his voice sharp despite the sound of shattering concrete and detritus.

Lena didn’t hesitate. She grabbed th...

There are times in life when you realize that things just aren’t going your way. Sometimes, it’s when it rains for no apparent reason, all while you’re out and about with no care in the world. Other times, you stub your toe on the leg of a table that you swear wasn’t there just seconds before.

And in those circumstances, you would curse the world and whatever god was listening for putting you in that situation. I get that. I’ve been there, and I’ve suffered the same fates. View Post
