Good morning!
Wisdom and Discernment seem to be a lost art these days. Most of what we see and here in the media and news is controversial, changes and causes panic, mistrust and unsettled emotions. Everyone has an opinion. Everyone thinks they are right. These opinions change on a dime, though, which can leave everyone perplexed and anxious.
During a group devotional I was reading with friends, I jotted down some things that grounded me in Truth. The Truth according to God. These things bring me peace and I hope they do for you too.
How do we cultivate wisdom and discernment according to God?
To start with, we need to have a heart that is all of the following:
๐Receptive Heart: eager to absorb and apply Godโs wisdom by reading and applying His Word
๐Perceptive Heart: treasure His truth and go after it with fervor. His Word is eternal and carries weight. It does not change like media and news!
๐Humble Heart: be open to His leading and voice, be willing to learn and not so full of ego, thinking we know it all already
๐Believing Heart: once we know that the Word of God is true, (I did enough of my own personal research to believe it not just cuz my mama told me so :) then believing is seeing! Believe and you will see!
Cultural and worldly wisdom changes. It is flaky and based on personal experience and emotions.
Some stumbling blocks to gaining wisdom and discernment are:
๐ซDistractions (I have many myself!)
๐ซReasoning (we talk ourselves out of hearing from God and applying wisdom through our human reasoning)
๐ซPride (the opposite of a humble heart)
Let us seek after wisdom as a pirate seeks after treasure!
โMy child, will you treasure my wisdom? Then, and only then, will you acquire it. And only if you accept my advice and hide it within will you succeed. So train your heart to listen when I speak and open your spirit wide to expand your discernmentโฆ.โ Proverbs 2:1-2
