From what we've seen, Eizen's a pretty traditional guy who talks all big and stuff like his attitude towards female samurais like Sagiri; a samurai who follows heavily on traditions, sounds like a great option to be the next head of the clan to me. Consider the time this story takes place, no wonder he gets all the support he got.
