Ghosthause (playing God of War): I think Atreus might be my favorite son right now.  How many monsters have you guys helped me defeat?

6yo: Monsters arenโ€™t real... ๐Ÿ™„

Ghosthause: How do you know?

6yo: Because I havenโ€™t seen any.

Making of "Mombie"

Chesca Hause post Making of "Mombie" from patreon

I love zombies.  I thought about just drawing the family as zombies, but I've wanted to do a good zombie comic for EVER!  I brainstormed until it hurt.  I knew I wanted them to be zombies, but there's quite a big set up to being turned.  Eventually I thought, what if there is no explanation -they just ARE zombies.  Then what?  I made a list of usual family activities (eating, bedtime etc) and kept pushing all the angles until this hit me!  It was so simple a...

Making of "Sign of The Times"

Chesca Hause post Making of "Sign of The Times" from patreon

Realized I'd missed posting about this one!  It started as an Inktober 2015 drawing:

Initially I kept flip flopping over whether this was going to be a full comic or to just update the original sketch, with no Litterverse stuff.  I ended up somewhere between the two.

I had Dad Cat turning his nose up at the idea at first, but J suggested it could be more fun with him gett...

Making of "Evil Genius"

Chesca Hause post Making of "Evil Genius" from patreon

This one was FUN!

I started out with Dad Cat on the table, but really wanted to get Fran in there and it seemed weird to have her lying down, or looming above him, so I switched to them both standing.

Once I had the pencils down, I did a rough color test.  Sometimes a linework composition looks great, but can end up sucking in color because you have too many of the same tones grouped together.  If that's the case, you want to know asap so you can fix it easily.

Making of "Donations"

Chesca Hause post Making of "Donations" from patreon

This one started out as in Inktober drawing in 2015:

Having them as actual vampires was a better joke, but I thought I could make up for it with cute bats and funny costumes.

For the nurse, I googled what vampire bats usually feed on and it turned up cows, horses and pigs.  I'd drawn a cow already and a horse seemed like it would be hard to draw screaming, so I went with pig.  I...

How To Make Perfect Slidey Comics

Chesca Hause post How To Make Perfect Slidey Comics from patreon

People often ask me how I make slidey panels for my Instagram comics.  It's actually really easy, here's a quick how to!

I use Clip Studio, but it should work in any prog that allows you to edit โ€œcanvas sizeโ€ (different from โ€œimage sizeโ€)

Making of "All Things Nice"

Chesca Hause post Making of "All Things Nice" from patreon

Our 2 guys are at the age where they are always 10mins from a fight or a mess.... probably BOTH!

J came up with the premise of this one while half asleep.  He told me in the morning, but needed something for them to be going off to do in the 1st panel.  I suggested something cute and innocent to make the twist even more twisty! :)

I fiddled with faces and poses as I went in this one.  I initially had her too angry in the final frame, so I reduced the tension in her ...

Making of "Just Right"

Chesca Hause post Making of "Just Right" from patreon

For a while now, J and I have been having a debate about what age to wait for various movies.  We're both keen to show the character building classics to them, but we can't pull the trigger too early.  They need to be exactly the same degree of traumatized that we were as kids!

The news of the Dark Crystal show being cancelled (BOO!!) got the cogs turning in my head for this script.  I wrote the 1st three panels and Fran popping up merrily in the...

Making of "Questions"

Chesca Hause post Making of "Questions" from patreon

Let me start by saying, one of my favorite things about being a parent is answering questions.  Being asked a science question and having to figure out a way to frame the answer in a way a kid will understand and then having them get it, is hands down, THE BEST feeling!

However, most kid questions are what I call "trash questions".  Asking for things, being lazy about thinking for themselves, asking something and not actually caring about the answer.  A few hours o...

Another one pulled straight from something that happened.  6yo decided that this crappy, white plastic ball was his "Best Friend" and started dressing him up in shoes and nattering away about him going "Mam Mam Mam-Mam!"

I was losing the battle to get him upstairs to bed when J took Bally and did exactly the move in the comic.  Usually when we do this kind of thing, 6yo finds some loo...

My friends and I are doing Comictober again this year and I'm super excited!  Here's the official prompt list!

Rules:

๐ŸŽƒ The numbers are the days of October. The challenge is to draw a comic based on that days word.

๐ŸŽƒ You donโ€™t have to do all the days! (I sure canโ€™t!)  Do as many, or as few, as you like!

๐ŸŽƒ Post your comic on the corresponding day using the hashtag #comictober2020

๐ŸŽƒ The goal is to have...

Making of "New T-shirt"

Chesca Hause post Making of "New T-shirt" from patreon

In real life, this one was about a pair of scissors.  J had bought these amazing new scissors which I borrowed to wrap 6yo's birthday presents.  They were AMAZING!  Gliding through the wrapping paper like you see on TV!  When I was done, I sneakily put them away in MY office instead of his.  Roll on to him needing the scissors and me telling him to look in my office drawer.  He was mock outraged and laughed at my cheekiness, to which I replied;

"It was win-...
