Return to form / Commission process

Remarin post Return to form / Commission process from patreon

I've been putting a lot of priority into doing commissions over the last few months while juggling game dev work,, so personal art has fallen to the wayside a bit, but I'm very glad I opened for proper illustration comms during the last batch, they've helped me get back that sense of "oh right!! This is what its all about-" ,, like with this piece, I was reminded how natural somber and dramatic lighting used to feel for me, and it scratched a creative itch I had forgotten about.
I still f...

Im def using this new patreon thing as motivation to redraw some of the early spice art - gotta say, it's a fun balancing act to try and improve on the shape language and posing, and yet loosing a little bit of that original gesture along the way - old sketch on the right is from 08.23!

From top to bottom, it's Jamie and Simon;
If you want some more information on the dnd-side of things, you can visit my tumblr, I intend to write down little blurbs around the Campaign and the characters in said campaign, and already have some posts collected there:

Remarin post The votes are in! from patreon

Or at least the votes, made by the people who saw the poll within 24 hours, are in lmao - I'll be creating a NSFW tier on this account and share explicit content here!
And I'm not gonna lie, it's a bit funny- doing explicit artwork has been motivating me to do studies again, so there are some nice pieces amongst the backlog I'll be posting - I'll make an effort to be consistent in my usual artwork posts too, I think starting off I'll be sure to pair any explicit post with a normal sketch ...

New Patreon exclusive content?

There's been a question floating about for a while now. See, I draw lots of dnd character art, and since a little while ago, let's say, I've discovered how joyous it is to draw characters intimately co-mingling together. Should've been obvious honestly, I've always enjoyed drawing human bodies in fun perspectives, poses and interactive scenes,, additionaly drawing clothes is always a tedious step too- so it shouldn't have been a surprise that nsfw art was so fun to explore lmao -

Remarin post 31.03.25 - sketches from patreon

A recent commission that took me a couple of sketching stages to properly get the feel for the drawing - I know one way to circumvent this would be to have a proper warm-up phase, but I've gotten a bit too used to trying to brute-force my way through a piece - im hoping to get better at allowing myself detours

Had this little sequence made for the backstory of a lil Totem Barbarian bunny I got to play for a lil bit - really gotta experiment more with B&W illustration, I feel like I'm so close to understanding the wider scope of controlling your values and atmosphere for dramatic impact >:I

My most recent commission! I'll detail out some of the thought process that goes into my thumbnailing for an illustration.

Some progress steps of a headshot! Planning out a drawing with a complex design like this takes some patience and caution - gotta make sure to split the design into components so that adjusting, tweaking and correcting can be done without needing to redraw a bunch of details over and over again!
Layer management is a valuable skill to improve if you want to make your digital art feel less tedious or draining - though it takes some trial and error to start catching which parts of a drawing ...

Character design that has not seen any playtime yet - would probs need to redo the concept by now if I found any game to put em in - but I really liked the sleeveless turtleneck tunic and that leg patterning combo lmao, so that'd be def re-used

Animation - Osiris

Remarin post Animation - Osiris from patreon

I've been doing some YCH animations inbetween illustration commissions and I figure I can break down that process a lil!

I'll focus on the process of establishing the motion, and tying down linework & detail for a walk-cycle like this-

Some general info - this animation has 14 individual frames, that play for a total of 36 frames at 24 fps / 7 of those images last for 3 frames each, and 7 images last 2 frames each. The rhyme or reason as to which frame I picked to last a tic...

Some exploratory sketches for a dnd character i didnt end up getting around to playing - I've been meaning to play a triton-esque character, and the design challenge was quite interesting- how do you balance a highly colored base character with thematic intrigue and then leave enough room for colorful clothing? (one consideration was to play them as a bard-)
Also how far do you push the inhuman elements while still maintaining the ability for expressions? Usually I land on a character shap...

Remarin post 10.2024 from patreon

And because I have no impulse control, here have a much more recent example of an outfit design I've worked on-

It's... my god, I have 4 years worth of different phases of character brainrot, all at different quality levels, and I gotta figure out how to sift through all of it bit by bit and catch up to posting it - doing it chronologically will never work for me, so might as well just take the "fuck it, we ball" approach

Ok gotttta make sure to not immediately shy away from sharing sketches just because they're old -
I've been playing dnd for the last few years, and it has repeatedly made me confront the challenge of outfit design - and since this dragonborn was amongst my first characters, that means these older sketches mark some of my first attempts to learn some new skillsets!

Let's figure this out

Remarin post Let's figure this out from patreon

I've not thought about my patreon for a while now, but I would really enjoy having my own little corner to just dump random sketches and drabbles - I've just not sat down long enough to actually consider it - I've always felt like I need to curate my content to such a degree.
But no, I'm gonna make an effort to reformat this environment, to hopefully make it easier to keep maintenance up and actually,, update, when I've got small things to share
